The BIZZ Plan for Bossy Inspiration & Encouragement

{Image Source: www.thebizzplan.com}

Get some more "bossy" inspiration from business blog, The BIZZ Plan and their shows. Benoni, the founder and owner of the site, touts it as an unorthodox business blog and vehicle for sharing hope and teachable moments with others. I love to see people of color blogging about other things besides just fashion and beauty/hair. We have so much range, like anyone else, and I'm hungry for all kinds of content from us that exemplifies that. Benoni also created The BIZZ Plan show, found on Issa Rae's Youtube channel, where short interviews are held with people of color who own various businesses. What I like most about the show is that the features aren't really asked to share an overview of their actual [business] plan and exactly how they became successful. It's more like them sharing their philosophies on their businesses and success, why they enjoy what they're doing and sharing inspiration and words of encouragement. I also like that because the episodes are short, they wet your appetite just enough to want to learn more about each feature and their endeavors after watching. One of my favorite episodes is below. You can check out all of The BIZZ Plan episodes on Issa Rae's Youtube channel and also visit the website at www.thebizzplan.com.

To be Your Own Boss or to Have a Boss, That Is the Question

If you live in USA then you are probably inundated with the new ethos to be your own boss.

You're a sucka if you work for someone else, right? You may have heard that the only way you'll be truly happy in your professional career or truly become wealthy is by working for yourself. Quitting your day job and starting your own business is the new black. You're so not en vogue if you're still a corporate pigeon or working for "the man". But I advise people to be mindful of what lenses they put in front of their eyes.

Music that Can Mac // The Stuyvesants' Guest Selects on Fresh Selects/Tight Sounds Project

If you follow me on Twitter, then you saw me tweet about this over the weekend but I had to share it again on here because good music needs to be shared all day, every day, is how I see it. The Stuyvesants is one of my favorite producer duos and their latest project with Fresh Selects gave me the greatness that they always possess. I don't know what it is about The Stuyvesants' musical creations that take me to a really majestic, feel good and groovy place but they just do. Sometimes it's old school hip-hop magic, 70's groovin/funk magic or 80's computer-synth vibrational magic and I'm good with all of it. I do some of my best creating and writing with their music playing in the background so I'm really thankful that they share their love of music with the world. Give their Guest Selects a listen below and check out all their sounds on their website http://TheStuyvesants.com. Your weekend just got sweeter; you can thank me later.

The Dame Dash Interview.... Nuts or Spitting Gems?

Twitter went in on Dame after The Breakfast Club interview
I totally have Kelis' "Bossy" song stuck in my head and that's ok because it fits with this posts energy and this month's theme.

So most have heard, by now, about the Dame Dash explosion interview on 105.1 FM show The Breakfast Club last month. Dame Dash went absolute ham for reasons unbeknownst to man and the ratings sky rocketed through the roof. Most people trashed Dame for his words but I saw things a little differently....

So before getting into it, let's state the obvious: YES, he was (I felt); mad extra throughout this interview (but he's a Harlem dude, could we really expect anything less? A little NYC humor/truth/fun. Lol.). But in his crazy talk there were some good points that I picked up on because I didn't take his words (which were at times VERY extra) so literally. I pulled inspiration from what I felt he may have been trying to say. I'm going to share with you the messages that I took away from the interview despite his delivery. Below are the three messages and/or themes that I found in his interview. Remember, ignore his exact words, because they were array at many times.

AGCM Book Club // The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg

This latest book club share came from boss chick, Myleik Teele, founder and CEO of CurlBox. If you don't follow her on Instagram, she is worth following. She shares a lot of great books that she reads and I'm glad she does. This one was a game changer for me and has definitely upped my bossy energy.

Did you know that once a habit is in place, it cannot be destroyed in the brain? Habits can only be created or changed and The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg explains why and how habits are a part of everything in our personal and professional lives for the better or worse. It is riddled with great examples throughout the book about how habits can effect individuals, social movements (like the Civil Rights Movement in USA) and businesses/corporations. I especially liked how the focus on one habit for the company, Alcoa, had a majorly, positive domino effect within the organization. It's a really inspiring story and the book is empowering and inspiring overall. It's like you're getting in on a "secret" to success and life. Every boss chick should check this read out.

The Power of Habit helped make me more aware of habits I have that are subconscious and those that are deliberate and makes changes to any that didn't work out in my favor. I live even more deliberately and  get more things accomplished personally as well as professionally because I have better and more effective habits in place. Most "successful" people that we will meet in life had boss habits that they follow that aided in their success. I borrowed it from the library first to make sure that I liked it and since I do, I will be adding this to my personal home library.

Have any habits you'd like to change or create to keep your boss chick energy hight? What are some of them?

Habits and Rituals Like a BOSS:: How Deliberate Habits and Rituals are Changing My Life

Life before a morning routine felt a lot like this!

As I've grown in awesomeness, I've developed an affinity for having routines and/or rituals in place for constants in my everyday life. I have found that rituals keep my focus and energies from becoming distracted as easily and losing site of my goals. In other words, rituals help me get more things done. Rather I was aware or not, I had habits/routines/rituals in my life that weren't all intentional or productive. Last year I decided to take a more proactive approach towards my life so that I could live more intentionally and not be as skittish and reactive. I started small by turning my attention to how I started my day and created a morning routine. Why this was important was because before creating this, my morning ritual was one of a reactive and chaotic nature. It normally included hitting the snooze button ten million times, almost oversleeping and then running around like a crazy person with clothes, soap and lotion flying everywhere while getting ready so that I wasn't late for work. This is not a good way to start one's day with their energies frazzled from jump. Since I was doing this everyday, it would spill over into work and at the end of the day I would come home spent.

Late last year, I decided to take control of this chaos and give it orders. My intention behind it was to end the chaos I was beginning each day with and instead start my day on a more peaceful and empowering note. I wanted to get ready for work at a pace that was fair but wasn't rushed and I wanted to leave the house feeling ready to take on the world. So the morning ritual was created and I've been doing for a few months now. I wake up between 5 and 5:30am (I can thank years of being a corporate pigeon for that!). Early, right? But it's very true, in my case, that the early bird catches the worm.

No Buy Challenge 2015

"Live like no else now so you can live like no one else later."- Dave Ramsey, personal finance adviser

I've stated HERE that I am not playing around this year. I am in debt detonation mode. It started with paying off all my credit card debt the end of last year and now I'm trapped in the cipher and don't want to come out until all my remaining debt is gone. I have laser focus and I want my remaining school loan balance of about 15K zeroed by this December or sooner. I've been listening to a lot of the Dave Ramsey show lately and those debt free screams those people and families do excite me, inspire me and motivate me. There are individuals, families and couples who have sometimes paid like 100K off in 3-4 years! These are everyday people paying their damn houses and student loans off in under 5 years! Some of their salaries started out under 30K annually when they started this journey and by the time their debts were paid off, they were making; many times, double or more than double their starting salary. How can you not be inspired by that? I want to be "weird" like that. So it's time for me to focus harder, I can taste this victory. I would love to call into the show this year, at some point, to proudly do my "I'M DEBT FREEEEEEEE" scream.

I have decided to, in addition to increasing my streams of income, go on a no buy challenge this whole year.

15K to Zero by December or Bust! How I'm Zeroing 15K Worth of School Loans by the End of This Year

Me graduating from OSU back in June 2005 with my little sis.
I can't believe this June marks 10 years since I GRADUATED from college! I also am smh'ing that after 10 years, I'm still paying this school loan back!

Late last year when I was goal setting for this year, I dreamt big. I told God/the Universe that I really want the remaining 15K balance on my school loan ZEROED by December or sooner. Yes, I want 15K gone in 1 year. I set my intentions, devised my game plan and when January 1st arrived, game time. Halfway through last year, 2014, I started paying $4 more than the minimum monthly payment of $256 to make it an even amount of $260. At the time, I was paying off my credit card debt/balances (which I successfully zeroed last December!) and that's all I could afford. In January I started adding an extra $10 on top of the $4 extra I was already doing onto my school loan, minimum monthly payment. I'm doing this to add more fire to the energy and intention I have behind the belief that I live in abundance and will pay what's left on my school loan SWIFTLY. I've been paying on it for 10 years and I say no more, want this sucker gone. This extra money on top of the minimum is my message to the Universe that I am serious about this and I intend to dead it before another 5 or 10 years has a chance to roll around!

Music Than Can MAC // Entrstellar Remix of Pharell's Frontin

Happy Friday! Reporting to share some feel good music for your weekend. I shared Entrstellar on here last month but if you all are still sleeping on this producer duo, wake up! They are good. They recently dropped remixes to Pharell's Frontin and Daft Punk's Technologic. Frontin remix is dope and more twerking in the front of the mirror in the privacy of my bathroom has been goin down. I love Daft Punk and they did this remix to Technologic justice! And if you like their remixes, for now, they are free for you to download for your enjoyment or add to your dance mixes. Check out both below and, poof, your weekend has just been made. You're welcome. :-) Let me know what you think. Pay their Soundcloud page a visit to hear all their projects. They drop new material every two weeks.

April 2015 Editor's Note: The Definition of Being Bossy

Wow, April already! The year is moving right along at a nice clip, let go of the seat belt! So ya grl has been a busy bee, pouring lots of great intentional energy and work into this space. I've made some changes on the site and over the past two months you'll notice that at least one new post is consistently going up at the start of each week. I love where things are headed. In my last editor's note, I talked of some great things I had in store and the picture above is one of them. You like? Let me explain what's going on. The start of each month, an editor's note will go up from me and include a magazine cover of sorts highlighting 4 pieces that will definitely go up on the blog that month. So for each month, at least one new post will always go up the start of each week and the "magazine cover" will give you an idea of what's coming for the weeks ahead in that month. Right now, the cover grl is almost always going to be ya grl but in the future, I'd love to start making some of YOU the cover grls! Sometimes I will give the months themes and other times, I may not.

This month's theme is I'm Bossy, being bossy; being a boss [chick]. The first thought that comes to me when thinking about being bossy/a boss is Kelis singing the chorus, "I'm Bossy!". The thoughts behind what being bossy is are highly individual. I define a woman being bossy or being a boss chick as someone who is a visionary, driven and active. She's got things to see and do and she's going to "git er done." She doesn't sit on the sidelines watching and waiting to be called to the table. She walks up to the table; has a seat and introduces herself.
