Mission Statement

It's funny because this blog came about from sheer boredom. It was the summer of 2008 and I was heavily into the YouTube make up scene. Starting out, I was sharing all the different looks I came up with and talking make up techniques and products. Late that summer, I decided to cease relaxing my hair and that I was going to document the journey on here as well and it took off from there. This blog went from mindless, make up blabber to cure a fit of summer boredom into something with a purpose and passion behind it. It's really dope when great things in your life happen like this.

The mission of this blog is simply to inspire you and share information with you. I mainly talk hair but I also like to discuss beauty, health, eco-chic living and art as well because, just like India Arie, we not just our hair. The mission of this blog is to instill pride and excitement in you about being brown with afro textured hair. My goal is for this blog to celebrate the beauty in our hair and our beauty. With knowledge, the appropriate hair care practices, tools and attitudes our hair can thrive and achieve ANY lengths we want. Our hair is so versatile and so fly! Don't let Hollywood brainwash us into thinking there is only one kind of beauty. There are MANY.

Anyone from any background is welcome here but to the kinky-kurly-koily hair, brown girls this blog is dedicated to you all because I am one of you and because our celebration is deserved. Some progress is being made but we still have a ways to go and I was taught to not complain about a problem unless I was willing to provide some solutions for it. I cannot change the world but I can do my part. I have learned so much from many and I just want to pass it down and what I continue to learn. This is how you keep a culture alive.

I hope this blogs brings to you, as much as it does to me, a sense of pride, excitement and appreciation for the black American, as well as the worldwide (Caribbean, South American, African, European etc.) black, experience: our afro textured hair, our beauty, our health, our style and our swag! We are black women and we don't play when it comes to our hair and chile, I wouldn't have it any other way. This is a part of our wonderful culture. We are a beautiful and wonderfully talented people. Don't you ever forget it!
