Natural Hair Lightener: Honey

Who knew? I sure didn't. I was on Mixology101 and in one of the discussions on the Olive and Honey conditioner recipe a fellow member said she doesn't use honey b/c it lightens her hair. Word? I have off-black hair and really would like for it be more like a very dark brown...... So, I made like Curious George and googled it. Who knew? From Homemade Beauty Recipes :

Honey contains natural Hydrogen peroxide. Iron in honey oxidizes the oxygen free radicals released by the hydrogen peroxide.
Method for lightening hair color with Honey:
Mix 3/4 cup honey with 1/12 cups regular hair conditioner

Apply to damped hair. Wrap hair in saran wrap or a plastic shower cap.

Let sit for up to 8 hours, then rinse.

I'm so gonna try this!!!!! I think it takes time tho, so don't be surprised if you don't see any drastic differences the first time. Or some might. Everyone's hair is different but yeah, don't get mad if you don't see "stellar" hair color results on the first try. If nothing else, it sounds like another great conditioning treatment for your hair. Honey's uber moisturizing. So at least you'll have enhanced shine in your hair, b/c honey's good for that too, and really moisturized hair.

I use this mixture on my light brown hair, but my version is slightly different: 1 heaping tablespoon of honey, juice from 1/4 lemon and about 2 big tablespoons of conditioner.

I put this on my head, wrap it in plastic, apply some gentle heat with a hair dryer, then let it sit for about half an hour. Then I wash it off and use just a bit of conditioner again to counteract the drying effect of the lemon.

Works really well for me :)
