Protein Treatment for Hair: a Hair Mayonnaise Recipe

My hair's been shedding like crazy and I realized that I haven't done a protein treatment since before I BC'd. Wow! So, last week, I figured I needed to squeeze in some time (from hectic Fashion Week schedule) to have a lil protein in my hair's life and whipped up this simple recipe:

* approx 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
* approx 1 tbsp Olive oil
* approx 1 tbsp Castor oil
* approx 1 tbsp Grapeseed oil- this won't always be in the recipe, I'm just trying to use this up
* approx 1 tbsp Agave nectar or Honey

Note. You can add an egg to this mix if you like as well.

I didn't use exact measurements (I almost never do, I just eye ball things. Sorry guys. Just eye ball it till it looks right to you.) I mixed everything together and applied to my hair in (8) sections that I then braided up, as I always do, and left it on for about 15-20 minutes.

I then did my usual: detangled each braided section (I'm back to using my trusty ol shower comb for detangling. The detangling brushes just take out too much of my hair that I would like to keep on my head, thank you very much) and then braided it back up, hopped in the shower and continued on with my washing regimen: cleansing and following up with an ACV rinse.

My hair felt soft yet stronger and I saw a lot less hair in my comb. So I don't think I need to do protein treatments often, just when necessary: maybe like bi-monthly.

This was a very good and very inexpensive treatment. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

I have been thinking about going for a more homemade protien treatment once I use up my Aphogee 2 min treatment. I'm going to try this asap!

A mayo protein treatment saved my hair over the summer. I never truly realized the value in doing them =)
