January 2016 Theme & Editor's Note: Reset & Refresh

Happy New Year everyone! How is your 2016 going so far? Mine has been nothing short of amazing, already. Adventure didn't waste any time finding me and I hope that more does. 2015 really blew my mind, taught me so much and involved some very significant leaps (which I will talk about at some point this year) of faith.

This month's theme is Reset & Refresh. It's never too late to wipe the slate clean but most of us, collectively, view January 1st to be a significant day to wipe it clean and start anew. That collective energy on that day is very strong so let's go with that reset energy! This month's posts include spiritual cleansing practices you can use to reset your body and soul for the new year, discussing how setting intentions and following inspired actions can afford you the life of your dreams and the roll out of us touring each and every country in Africa! How awesome is that?! There will be a detailed post on the latter tomorrow so tune in for the low down.

This month's message, for the theme of Reset & Refresh, from me is to ALLOW yourself to be yourself.

The end of last year, I finally allowed myself to be a writer. I was saying I was a writer but my mind was telling me that I was a fraud and not the real thing. I have been writing since a pencil was placed in my hands, I've consistently written in a journal since middle school and I've been blogging since 2008. In my mind, I limited myself to just a person who thoroughly enjoyed writing. I didn't go to college for journalism or literature and I didn't have any scholarly or riveting books that I authored. I always felt that title was for the Charles Dickens, Toni Morrisons and Chimamanda Ngozi Adiches of the world, not ME. But the feeling that I was, in fact, a writer in my own right; was a monkey on my back that I couldn't shake off. I could keep it quiet or distracted temporarily, but I could never shake it off.

The day before Christmas Eve past, the pastor of my spiritual center led a meditation and visualization call that everyone collectively asked how could they be of service to the world; how could their gifts impact the world's positive evolution. Very early into the led meditation and visualization, it came through to me with clarity and boldness: YOUR WRITING, MILAN. One of my contributions to serving humanity in this realm of life is with my writing. In that moment, I acknowledged, with certainty; that I am a writer and allowed myself to be one however that looked for me. This is one of my contributions to the world and part of the purpose of my being in this world. I must use it and share it.

Allow yourself to be and watch the resources and paths reveal themselves!

Most often, we cannot reach the greatness that we want for ourselves not because we have haters or no one believes in us. The vast majority of it is because we don't allow ourselves to be or have that greatness. Like me telling myself that I wasn't a writer because all I did was journal and blog, almost all of us do this to ourselves in different ways. We limit and restrict ourselves. "I can't be an engineer because I don't know math." "I can't have my own business because I wouldn't know what to do." Allow yourself to be and watch the resources and paths reveal themselves!

I'm definitely, now, reading books on creative writing, doing writing prompt exercises and will be attending writing workshops all throughout the year to further hone my craft and my purpose. Don't be overwhelmed, just start. Don't know something? Go to school for it, shadow someone doing it, take a class, research online, read books. Allow yourself to be great and the path will appear. If you dreamed it, it means that you can do it.

Wishing everyone an amazing 2016 that is filled allowance, ease, fun and expansion. We got this. Now, let's GO!
