Fit Brown Girls Mashup // Workout Hair, Gear and More

Our June cover girl, Kinya

I'm a girlie girl and I'm proud of that, but that doesn't mean that I'm afraid of getting dirty or sweaty for the sake a good workout to maintain my health and sense of adventure either. This post is a mash up of hairstyles, gear and gadgets all for your health and fitness needs. See something missing that could be helpful for your fit brown sistas? Share it in the comments below. Thanks for tuning in all this month. Have exciting news for July and can't wait to share July's theme and featured posts to look out for.

No Gym Zone // Gym Free Workouts

June cover girl, Kinya Harte

Whether it's a financial decision or personal preference, some of us aren't about that gym life, myself included. With Instagram selfies and videos in the gym, we may think it's one of the only ways to get and stay fit but you have options, friends. You can get gym worthy benefits with little to no equipment in the comfort of your own home or backyard or at the local park. Two of my favorite IG accounts share tons of workouts you can do outside of the gym for the same toned and tight body results.

Five Fit Brown Girls on Instagram to Inspire You

{Credit: WrkOutQueenie}

Instagram hosts inspiration for just about everything and fitness isn't left out of that equation. I sometimes find that I have more fitspiration from there than online or from women's magazines where we are rarely on the covers and only take up a couple pages inside. With "statistics" and the news/media shoving down our throats that we [black women] are obese, unhealthy and don't exercise, I'm glad that fit brown girls around the world are taking to social media to share and inspire. Rather you are just starting your fitness journey or fitness is a permanent and ongoing fixture in your lifestyle, these 5 picks can help inspire you or add to your inspiration. Outside of their awesome physiques, these women also tout the importance of keeping your internal and mental/spiritual health a priority too and I love that about these women. They are forthcoming with nutrition and health information and motivation because they want everyone to succeed and if you've been a reader on here long enough, you know that aligns with my abundance mindset perfectly. The order in which they are listed doesn't denote how much I like one over the other, I love them all equally and love the variety they bring to black women's fitness.

June Cover Girl, Kinya Harte, is the Everyday Healthy & Fit Urbanista

When I was coming up with the concept for cover photo, I knew I wanted  someone who was an "everyday" woman. To me, this meant that she wasn't a fitness model for a living or even a personal trainer. I wanted someone who has just intertwined fitness into their lifestyle and also doesn't let anything get in the way of that, including health conditions. This passion to live our best lives no matter what is what I wanted to capture in a cover girl and feature. This month's cover girl, Kinya Harte, is a pretty dope woman. She's a big city, urbanista and career woman doing her thing. We talked to Kinya to learn about her and her health and fitness journey, which includes having thyroid disease.

June 2015 Theme & Editor's Note: Get Me Bodied

Hello June! We are halfway through the year and I hope that you are rocking and rolling. Though this issue was late coming out, it was worth it. I take pride in putting forth quality work and have been working really hard, as of late, to improve the quality of my work and this site. Instead of just getting the cover out, I wanted to make sure that the quality wasn't compromised.

This month's theme, Get Me Bodied, is about fitness and having a fit quality of life. A few months ago, I did a search for women's fitness blogs and not much came up for women of color. The ones that I did find had been abandoned by their authors after only a few posts from a year ago or more. That hit something inside of me. I understand that we can gain inspiration from anyone but living in a country that tells us repeatedly that we're nothing, undesirable, unworthy and fat & unhealthy; YES, I do want to see people who look like me and aren't those things. I don't believe that we are any of those things about us and I believe that obesity and poor health is an AMERICAN thing, not just a woman of color thing. I know fit and sound minded women of color exist but most of them don't have blogs or if they do, they are not easy to find. I hope to see more of us blogging again but many you can find on mediums like Instagram, so I decided to root them out and share our top picks. Their journeys and pictures will inspire you and these are women not just "doing it for the 'gram". They really are enthusiasts for living fit and healthy lives so much so that many of them have made it their life's work and/or career.

I wanted this month to feature women who look like us and have positive and active lives like us, like our cover girl, Kinya Harte. She's an amazing, urbanista balancing work and life and you'll get to learn more about her and her health journey. You don't have to be a celebrity, Olympian or a fitness competitor or live in the gym to be fit. It's not just about perfectly toned bodies, gym selfies and cute workout clothes (although, hey, we do like and enjoy that stuff). Being fit is a lifestyle and a belief more than anything. With fit minds and fit bodies, let's have fun this month!

Be blessed and stay naturally fly,

Sorry For Delay- The June Cover is Coming!

Hello everyone!

In my ever growing efforts to strive for quality and excellence, the June cover wasn't ready by the 1st of this month. However, it will be ready later this week and I'm excited to release it and the content for this month. I'm really excited to share this cover because my desire to have other cover girls for the magazine became a fast reality. You only had to endure my face on two covers. LOL. I just don't want it to be all about me on this blog anymore like it was when I first start this space over 5 years ago (this blog is 7 years old!). It's about community and us all uplifting each other and feeding off of each other's creative and positive energy. It's no secret that I'm all about abundance. I believe there is more than enough room for all of us to shine and I really want this space to be haven for that. It's all about inclusion, enriching, inspiring and anything else positive on here

I can't wait for you all to learn more about our cover girl for this month. If you follow on Instagram or Twitter, you, actually; already know who our cover girl is! Stay tuned, this month's cover and content are coming and it's getting better and better with each month that I do this. Thank you as always for your love and support and you know I have to be shameless about giving my e-Book a shout out. If you have or you know someone with natural hair that fine and could use some tips for caring for their hair, then my book Fine Natural Hair, Don't Care: Tips to help natural hair with fine strands and medium to low density thrive, may be a helpful resource for them. I also just did a podcast for fine natural hair and great summer styles for it.

All the best,
