Crochet Braids Are Back in Town

I needed a change so I decided to go back to an old favorite of mine, crochet braids. They're so easy to do and the results never disappoint. These got me through the winter last year. I used 2 packs of the water wave hair from Free Tress. In the past I have used curlier hair than this but I like this hair too. It blends in well with the rest of my hair and hairline so it looks very natural and "organic"; almost like it could be my hair that I did a braid out on.

I've had them in for a little over a week now and plan to keep them in for 2 to 3 more weeks.

How I Maintain This Style:

Good Monday! Here's some more KURLspiration for you.

This doll and her hair are supa fly. I must figure out where I can get one of these.

My Waistlength Challenge Updates Finally

I know, I KNOW. I'm all late and stuff. But better late than never, right? (Another original challenger sent me her updates and I need to update the other post with her pics.) So check me out....

I'm almost APL. This picture doesn't really show it that well but I'm just under an inch away. I'm forecasting by late October or November I will be there. :D

I still follow the same routine that I've been employing all along: wash every 1-2 weeks, moisturize daily, blah blah... I wear my hair up when I feel like it and out when I feel like it. Right now, I have it in crochet braids. One week down, three more to go. Once I take them down, I'm not sure what I will do to it next. We shall see. Pics of my crochet braids will be coming in another post.

One of my favorite sites to draw kurly inspiration from, I tell ya. I really like this pic.

On the Wish List: AfroVeda Ginger Root Hair Pomade

Image from

I've taken a liking to funky, modernized Rockabilly inspired up-do's. My hair can be quite frizzy in the front and I've been on the prowl for a more bio inspired hair pomade to slick the frizzies into submission. I hadn't been on the AfroVeda site in a while so when I popped by, I was thrilled to see they now offer a hair pomade. (The law of attraction is too cool!)

I plan to get it once I take these crochet braids down about a month from now and do a review. Have any of you tried this product?

My Hair: Blow Drying with Bee Mine and Grapeseed Oil

is a HIT!

Remember when I did a post about how grapeseed oil might make a good heat protectant for your hair? Well, I finally got around to trying it. I blew out my hair last weekend so that I could get it cornrowed for crochet braids (post on that coming up).

On freshly conditioned and washed hair, once damp, I applied Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk to a section and then grapeseed oil before lightly blowing it out (on the low/medium setting). Let me tell you, my hair was very soft and felt great. In the past, the few times that I have blown my hair out, it usually felt somewhat dry and I figured that was just a side effect of blowing out kinky kurly hair (and you just had to re-moisturize). With the results I received this time around, I see that it doesn't have to feel dry afterward. The grapeseed oil also, in a way, helped the comb attachment on the blow dryer glide through my hair with much ease. I was very happy with the results. I didn't think to take pics, sorry!

I will next time b/c I plan to be rocking crochet braids or braided/flat twisted hair do's almost exclusively till next spring.

Products Used:
  1. Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk
  2. Grapeseed Oil
  3. Andis blow dryer

Product Review: Karen's Body Beautiful Maximum Moisture Body Lotion

I got this lotion in the free swag bag all the attendees of the Loving Your Hair With Natural Care workshop received. I totally adore it and need to re-up on it. It's light but does a super job of keeping my skin moisturized, soft and supple. My skin easily absorbed it and this lotion never left it feeling greasy. Not sure how this will fare in the cold months though so this may only be good for my skin in the warm months. It's excellent and is a bio (meaning it contains all or mostly all natural (and safe) ingredients) lotion which I adore even more.

As always, it comes in all the great scents KBB has available.

Waist Length Hair Challenge: First Length Check In!

So, it's the first update for the Waist Length Hair Challenge. FINALLY, right? Yes, they were supposed to go up last month but you all already know why that didn't happen. Now that I'm more acclimated to working again and I'm all moved in to my new spot, "it's on like Donkey Kong".

I received length checks/updates from the following original entrants and here they are. Click on the pics to see a larger view:

Another one of the entrants, Shell Sea, has her updates on her blog HERE. Check her out. It looks like she has reached waist length!

Any other originals, meaning those who sent me entry pics before May, who didn't get their pictures in, you can still send them to me and I'll put them up. For those who joined the challenge after May, everyone is welcome but I'm not posting up additional picture entries. If you have your own blog or photo album, you can chronilize your picture updates there and link back to the challenge if you like.
My updates will be in a separate post because I still haven't taken my latest update pic. What a bum I can be. LOL.

Enjoy the last day of the holiday weekend!
